FGCU Takes Flight
Hey sports fans! I’ll be representing Florida Gulf Coast University throughout our first NCAA tournament appearance! I’m thrilled and honored to contribute to sports.tumblr.com on behalf of the Eagles! I am a recent grad who is beyond proud of FGCU Men’s Basketball accomplishments. From a public relations perspective the spotlight has been incredible for our university! College basketball fans are curious who are the emerging Eagles. Yahoo.com said it best; “Life’s literally a beach at FGCU.” Our dorms face a pristine lakefront and the Gulf of Mexico is about a 15 to 20 minute drive from campus. Our student section the “Dirty Birds” are wild and protective of our nest. President Bradshaw and the Student Government has arranged a bus trip to send 50 students to Philadelphia to cheer on the Eagles against Georgetown on Friday, March 22nd at 6:50p.m.
Although many analysts predict Georgetown defeating 15th-seed FGCU I wouldn’t write us off too quickly. FGCU has only been eligible for the tournament for two years after a mandatory five-year transition period to Division I, beaten a No. 2-seed Miami by 12 points this season and are the 2013 Atlantic Sun Champions! As a Dirty Bird, I look forward to watching and blogging about our journey during the tourney!
